The journey begins again...

Mother's day 2008, brought back a painful reminder that I was not a mother and another round of 'what could have beens'. Little did I know that inside me, another life was forming. :) Fast forward a few months and here I am... 17 1/2 weeks pregnant! Milo and I will never be able to put in words how scary and exciting the first trimester was for us. When I was 5 weeks pregnant I had to pull over on my way to work because I had severe cramps. After spending the day in the emergency room we were told that they could see the yolk sac but no baby. The ER dr. told me that this might mean it was just too early to see anything. When we went to our follow up visit with my actual doctor a week or 2 later, she pulled my blood work from my ER visit and prepared Milo and I for the worst. After looking at my Hcg levels she said they were too high for them not to see a fetal pole. She let us know that she was going to do an ultrasound but things didnt look very good. I started crying, of course... I wasnt prepared emotionally to experience another loss... not this soon... not ever. When we went in for the ultrasound we were beyond blessed when there on the screen was our little angel with a very strong heartbeat.

Yes you are reading correctly, the baby's heart rate was 191 bpm!!! I think he/she was just as excited as we were. :)

My sister was able to go to my next ultrasound with me, which was comforting. If anyone understands what it was like to lose a baby at 12 weeks last time, it would be her. She also experienced a loss this past April. Once you lose a baby, you appreciate the miracle of life on an entirely new level.

At my 16 week appt. the baby wouldnt sit still while they were trying to get his/her heartbeat thru my tummy. The nurse told me "you have a very active little boy". I thought this was odd, since we dont know the sex yet, neither does she. Wonder if she is right?! :) The heartrate has slowed to a more average heartrate of about 150 -160 bpm. It was fun to see her chase baby g around my tummy to get the heartbeat.

Milo and I got a crib, the first piece of the nursery furniture. We put it together last Friday night when we got home. Molly, our kitty, wasnt too happy about giving up her own room. We moved out the excercise equipment and Molly's toys, and began the process of making room for baby!

I took a few pictures of the crib going up. We havent painted the room yet since we dont know the sex yet. We find out in a couple weeks.

He actually READ the directions... or at least glanced at them once. :)

Milo had to take a break to calm Molly down. She got her feelings hurt that we took over her room.

I love his big smile! I hope the baby gets his smile.
